FAQs

Q: What are your session rates?

A: My standard session fee is $145 per 50-minute session. I offer a limited number of reduced rate spots for clients experiencing financial hardship. I accept electronic payments using the Square Point of Sale platform.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: I am an out-of-network provider and can provide a detailed receipt (superbill) for potential reimbursement. Superbills will be sent out monthly at the client’s request. You can contact your insurance company to inquire about out-of-network mental health benefits.

Q: Is therapy confidential?

A: Yes, with limited exceptions required by law: imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of vulnerable individuals, or when mandated by court order.

Q: How do I know if what I am experiencing is trauma?

A: Dr. Gabor Maté defines trauma as "not what happens to you, but what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you" (The Myth of Normal, 2022). Trauma is not limited to dramatic events, and we do not need clear memories of our experiences to benefit from trauma therapy. Often, trauma reveals itself when an emotional response feels confusing or disconnected from your present circumstances. It’s as if your nervous system is responding to echos of past experiences rather than your current reality.

Q: How do you approach addiction recovery?

A: I view addiction as a way to cope with underlying pain or emotional needs rather than simply a behavior to change. My approach works best for individuals who have established some initial sobriety through programs like 12-step groups, treatment centers, or other recovery supports. While I don't provide primary addiction treatment or detoxification services, I offer a collaborative space to explore the deeper wounds, traumas, and patterns that may fuel addictive behaviors. This work helps strengthen long-term sobriety by addressing root causes.

Q: What if I’m still not sure if therapy is right for me?

A: That is okay — You’re welcome to email me and ask any remaining questions you have. I also offer a free 15-minute consultation call to help us determine what you need in your current situation. Email me at colton@coltonhammond.com to get started.
